All around Korea, it is very common to see mothers carry their baby on their back using a wide blanket carrier, called ‘podaegi.’ I was raised that way also, and I used to like being on my mom’s back a lot. Nothing else could comfort me more than a ‘podaegi’ and my little friend blue bunny doll. On all the sleepless nights, I was on her back, whining away until the lullaby faded away.  I’m not sure if it was the comfort level, the familiarity, or the warmth of the body that soothe me through the nights, but I wanted to try and bring this in to the chair.

My final piece is an imagery homage of the ‘podaegi.’ Although the seat is quite far from soft and mushy, it is rather the sweeping motion of the blanket that the chair tried to capture. By putting the doll of attachment on the seat, tie the ribbon up as you are the mother, it binds up the memories into the furniture.
